2023 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux
2023 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux
Tasting note: Bright, perfumed aromatics of violets and blackcurrant lead into juicy red cherry and a hint of orange peel. The palate is mid-to-medium-plus, showing refined, silky tannins, fresh bright acidity and a layered centre that balances fruit, gentle spice and discreet French oak. Producer notes: Pavillon Rouge 2023 represents a careful selection (around 30% of the harvest) from Château Margaux’s ongoing vineyard restructuring; younger parcels on exceptional terroirs are starting to contribute to the blend. Winemaking: Meticulous sorting and vinification, with barrel ageing for about 18 months in French oak to give structure without overwhelming the wine’s finesse. Vineyard: Sourced from Margaux terroirs benefiting from recent replanting and restructuring efforts begun in 2016 — soils and vine age produce wines with precision and aromatic lift. Serving: Best enjoyed after 45–60 minutes decanting if drinking young; rewarding short- to medium-term cellaring (drinking window c.2028–2042).

Pavillon Rouge is the estate's second wine, crafted to reflect the house style with early approachability and class. Vines are being reworked since 2016; the 2023 vintage was harvested between 11 September and 5 October and aged roughly 18 months in French oak.
