2021 Blank Canvas Settlement Vineyard Pinot Noir

A precise, expressive single‑site release from a high‑density hillside parcel in the Omaka Valley. Aromatics open with layered red and dark berry fruits, ripe plum and a seam of spice—clove and vanilla—framed by cedar and a subtle earth‑smoke. On the palate the wine shows focused energy: bright acidity and fine but present tannins give tensile structure around a concentrated core of fruit. Vineyard fruit was handpicked from a north‑facing ’Back Block’ planted in 2009 on wind‑blown loess over clay loams (Clone 777), certified organic and cane‑pruned at 3,788 plants/ha. In the winery roughly two‑thirds of the fruit was retained as whole clusters, the remainder destemmed and gently crushed into open fermenters; cool-soaked until natural fermentation began after four days, then hand‑plunged through a 15‑day ferment and finished malo in barrel. Aging was 12 months in low‑toast French oak barriques (35% new) followed by three months in tank to settle. The result is a medium-bodied, finely textured wine with tension and length—drink now with short decanting or cellar for further development.
