2021 Chateau Beausejour Duffau Lagarrosse
Tasting Note: This 2021 Saint-Emilion Grand Cru opens with an expressive bouquet of black and red berries—black cherry, ripe plum and brambly blackberry—etched with crushed stone minerality, oyster-shell salinity and a thread of herbal savouriness. Toasted cedar, gentle oak spice, pencil-shaving graphite and a hint of white pepper add complexity. The palate is concentrated yet elegant: juicy mid-palate fruit, taut mineral tension, and fine, persistent tannins that carry into a long, layered finish.
Producer & Winemaking Notes: From a manually harvested, rigorously sorted crop with very low yields (around 28 hl/ha), vinification is managed vat-by-vat with small, targeted adjustments per vat. The grand vin matured for approximately 15 months in oak, marrying freshness and structure while preserving terroir expression.
Vineyard Notes: Sited on Saint-Emilion’s classic limestone and clay-limestone slopes, the vineyard delivers pronounced mineral intensity and saline lift. Low yields and careful selection concentrate flavours and ensure excellent ageing potential. Drinkability: approachable with decanting now, will continue to develop beautifully through mid-century.
