2013 Château Lafite Rothschild is a classically reserved Pauillac showing concentrated dark fruit wrapped in serious structure. The bouquet is initially closed and austere, opening slowly to reveal notes of black fruit, cedar, tobacco and a stony, gravelly mineral character. On the palate it shows solid density, firm chewy tannins and bright acidity that keep the wine precise; mid-palate volume leads to a long, oak-tinged finish. Made under the direction of Charles Chevalier and matured 18–20 months in 100% new French oak, the wine demands patience but rewards with layered complexity as it evolves. The estate’s 112 hectares—slopes around the château, the Carruades plateau and a parcel in Saint-Estèphe—sit on deep fine gravel over tertiary limestone, producing well-drained fruit with pronounced minerality. Best enjoyed with hearty red meats and aged cheeses; allow an hour or two of decanting if drinking now.

Château Lafite Rothschild, a First Growth of the Médoc, is owned by the Barons de Rothschild and led by winemaking director Charles Chevalier. The historic estate (112 hectares) includes the slopes surrounding the château, the Carruades plateau and a small parcel in Saint-Estèphe. Soils are deep fine gravel over tertiary limestone; vines are farmed to produce low yields and concentrated, well-structured fruit. The 2013 received 18–20 months in 100% new French oak and reflects the estate's hallmark restraint and minerality.
