Krug Grande Cuvée 171ème Édition is a masterful multi-vintage assemblage crafted to deliver generosity, nuance and age-worthy complexity. Composed around the 2015 harvest and drawing on 131 individual wines from 12 different years (the oldest back to 2000), this Édition spent roughly seven years on the lees in Krug’s cellars before release. Traditional-method bubbles are fine and persistent, lifting aromas of white flowers, citrus blossom, toasted brioche, marzipan and gingerbread. The palate is layered — bright citrus and quince mingle with dried fruit, gentle toasty notes and a distinct saline, chalky minerality that gives tension and drive. Racy acidity and refined mousse create energy and structure, while an extended, savory finish reveals nutty and lemon-pith echoes. Made to pair with celebration and food, it sings with shellfish, richer fish dishes, lightly spiced starters and aged cheeses. Serve well chilled; no extended decanting required, though a short 10–15 minute rest in the glass can let deeper aromatics bloom.
