Tasting note

Bright, perfumed and finely textured, this Marlborough bottling offers a compelling mix of ripe red-berry fruit and savoury spice. The nose shows cherry, raspberry and touches of clove and vanilla over subtle char and dusty clay notes. On the palate it sits medium in body with lively acidity and fine, supportive tannins that frame layers of roasted spice and a plush mid-palate. There's a tension and energy that carries through to a long, resonant finish. Made by a focused small producer from fruit in the Upper Awatere valley, it’s handcrafted with site expression in mind and closed under screwcap to preserve fresh aromatics. Drink now with short decanting, or cellar a few years for added complexity.

Blank Canvas Wines is a boutique Marlborough producer run by Matt Thomson and Sophie Parker-Thomson. The project focuses on small parcels and clear site expression from the Awatere Valley, working with hands-on viticulture and minimal-intervention winemaking. Fermentations are typically managed to retain perfume and purity, with careful oak use and a practical approach to aging. The wines aim for balance, energy and drinkability while offering enough structure to age.
