Tasting note: Deep ruby with purple hues, the 2020 displays an inviting bouquet of black cherries, plums and blackberry compote lifted by dried orange and tangerine zest. Secondary aromas of forest floor, mushroom and soft licorice weave with nutmeg, sandalwood spice and a gentle chocolate note. On the palate it is medium-bodied and round, showing ripe, polished tannins, lively acidity and a dense, energetic finish. Producer notes: Blason d’Issan is the estate’s second wine, created to showcase fruit from the younger vines in the Margaux zone and provide an earlier-drinking expression of the property. The wine aims for approachable, rounded fruit while respecting the identity of its terroir. Winemaking notes: Fermented and aged in oak for roughly 14–16 months, with about one third of the barrels new, the wine balances oak spice and fresh fruit without over-extraction. Annual production is large (circa 120–135k bottles), allowing careful selection at harvest. Vineyard notes: Sourced from the Margaux estate’s younger parcels, the vineyards benefit from classic Margaux gravelly soils and maritime influences that give a blend of floral lift, minerality and ripe fruit. Château d'Issan is a historic Margaux estate known for its classic left-bank style. Alongside its grand vin, the property produces Blason d'Issan as a second wine (introduced in 1995) to showcase fruit from younger vines and offer an earlier-drinking, terroir-driven expression. The estate combines traditional winemaking with careful barrel ageing to balance freshness and structure.
