Tasting note: The 2021 expresses a perfumed bouquet of violets and floral lift layered over black cherry, blackberry and a hint of candied orange peel. Secondary notes of sandalwood, tobacco leaf and subtle espresso emerge with aeration. On the palate it is medium‑to‑full, silky and refined: fresh acidity gives tension while fine, ripe tannins provide structure and a succulent richness carries through to a long, polished finish. Producer notes: Château Angélus, long stewarded by the Boüard de Laforest family and guided by Hubert de Boüard, has refined its practices over decades to emphasise terroir expression. The estate’s Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" status reflects a sustained commitment to quality and vineyard care. Winemaking notes: Fermentations are handled with precision — some lots see oak and stainless steel vats, others concrete; selected vats receive a cold soak at about 8°C for several days followed by alcoholic fermentation up to ~28°C and post‑fermentation macerations of 1–3 weeks. The wine is aged 22 months in French oak, resulting in integrated toast and spicy nuances. Vineyard notes: The blend is sourced from 27 hectares on the south‑facing foot of the Saint‑Émilion slope. Soils are clay‑limestone on the upper sections, moving to clay, sand and limestone down the slope. Planting densities range from 6,500 to 8,500 vines/ha, and careful yield management produces concentrated fruit. Cellaring & service: Drinking window 2027–2050. If drinking younger, decant 60–90 minutes to reveal aromatics and soften youthful structure. Serve at 16–18°C. Ideal with robust roasted and grilled red meats or mature cheeses.
