Tasting Note: The 1995 Cos d'Estournel opens with an alluring bouquet of ripe black fruits—cassis and blackberry—woven with exotic spice, toasty pain grillé, pipe tobacco, cedar and a hint of anise. On the palate it is opulent and full-bodied, offering layered jammy fruit framed by ripe, slightly sweet tannins and lingering toasted oak and leather notes. The acid frame is moderate, giving freshness without stripping the wine's sensual fruit. Producer Notes: Cos d’Estournel is described as slow to reveal itself, deliberately sensuous and richly aromatic. The 1995 vintage, shaped by an extremely hot, dry summer, produced wines that are rich, fresh and complex with a long aromatic finish. Winemaking: Matured in oak with noticeable new-oak influence in this vintage, the Grand Vin shows toasted, spicy oak integration alongside cellar-derived tobacco and leather tones. Barrel ageing and careful blending aimed to balance power and elegance while preserving aromatic complexity. Vineyard: From Saint-Estèphe in the Médoc, the estate benefits from gravelly soils and maritime influence that moderate ripening. The hot, dry 1995 season yielded concentrated fruit and low yields, contributing to the wine's intensity and longevity. Cellaring & Serving: Already approachable for those who enjoy evolved Bordeaux, a 60-minute decant will help open tertiary aromas. Drinking window commonly cited as 2001–2030; still offers excellent complexity now.
