Tasting note

A refined Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from Chateau Coutet’s hillside vineyards. The 2019 shows a fragrant bouquet of black cherry, plum and blueberry underpinned by toasted sage, dark chocolate and nutmeg. On the palate it is medium-bodied and fleshy, with creamy, juicy fruit framed by fine, fully integrated tannins and a balanced, slightly spicy oak character from 18 months in 50% new barrels. Hand-harvested and vinified using traditional, non-pumping methods with native malolactic fermentation, this organic wine combines old-vine concentration with a graceful, savory finish. Drink now with decanting or cellar through the early 2030s.

Winery

Chateau Coutet has been in the hands of the Beaulieu family for centuries. Perched half a kilometre from the village on Saint-Émilion’s first hill, the estate farms organically (certified since 2012) and maintains a traditional approach: high planting density (~6,000 vines/ha), an average vine age around 38 years, hand-harvest and sorting, manual treading and pump-free vinification in an old cellar with a healthy micro-bacterial balance. The wine is matured for 18 months in 50% new oak, producing wines that combine concentration with elegance.
