Tasting note

2005 Château Lagrange delivers a classic Saint-Julien expression: dense colour and concentrated aromas with truffle and cedar giving way to black cherry, cassis and warm spice. The palate is rich and vibrant on the attack, then broadens into a suave mid‑palate with vivid freshness and tightly grained tannins. Made from a traditional Bordeaux assemblage from the estate’s single 118‑hectare block, the wine was harvested by hand (21 Sept–10 Oct) and vinified plot by plot in temperature‑controlled stainless tanks (26–28°C) with moderate pump‑overs, delestage or pigeage. Aged 21 months with 60% new oak and fined with fresh egg whites, it shows impressive concentration and long‑term potential while retaining the poise and mineral signature of its pebbly, clay‑limestone soils. Treat to a 60–90 minute decant to open the aromatic spectrum; pairs superbly with grilled or roasted red meats and mature cheeses.

Château Lagrange is a historic Médoc estate in Saint‑Julien occupying a single 118‑hectare block split over two north/south‑facing hills. Under current ownership it combines traditional Left Bank wine‑making with meticulous vineyard management: handharvested fruit, plot‑by‑plot vinification, and extended barrel maturation. The estate’s pebble‑studded soils over clay and limestone give wines a mineral backbone and classic longevity.
