Tasting note
Tasting note: The 2000 vintage at Lynch-Bages opens with dense, dark-purple colour and a bouquet of blackberries, cassis, graphite and ink, followed by tobacco, forest leaf and a smoky savoury thread. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated and structured, with velvety yet persistent tannins and a long, elegant finish. Producer & vineyard: From the gravelly Garonne soils of Pauillac and tended by the Cazes family under Jean‑Michel Cazes’ management, this Grand Cru Classé reflects a classic Médoc balance of power and finesse. Hand-harvested and sorted between late September and mid‑October, the fruit benefits from superb vintage weather. Winemaking & ageing: Traditional vinification using gravity-fed, temperature-controlled steel vats, followed by 15 months in French oak barrels (70% new). The result is a wine that has resolved much of its youthful austerity while retaining impressive structure and depth. Serving: Gentle decanting (about 45 minutes) helps lift aromas and soften sediment. Serve at 16–18°C. Excellent with roasted or grilled red meats and mature hard cheeses.
