Tasting note
Tasting Note: Aromas of ripe dark and red cherries, subtle forest floor and fine spice lead to a concentrated, elegant palate. The texture is notably silk-like, with velvet fruit wrapped around refined tannins and a mineral-tinged finish. Producer Notes: From a parcel acquired to the domaine in 2007 (les Loachausses, c.0.76 ha), these vines—now mature—ripen early on a brown, slightly stony soil with small fossils. Early maturation and a lively terroir give this bottling forward fruit and depth. Winemaking Notes: Traditional vinification at the domaine: temperature-controlled fermentation (typically 12–15 days) in lined cement vats for reds; free-run and press wines are blended after a minimum 48-hour settling to clarify. Ageing is approximately 16 months in oak, with around 80% new barrels for the grand crus, yielding spice and structure without harshness. Vineyard Notes: The vineyard was historically pruned Royat-style until 2010, since when Guyot pruning has been used. Work focuses on limiting herbicides and encouraging healthy soils; the site shows a pleasing balance of ripeness and minerality. Drinkability begins after a few years but this Grand Cru will repay careful cellaring through the 2030s. Serving: Best decanted for an hour, or served after gentle aeration; excellent with richer poultry and medium-weight game.
