A concentrated, classically structured Grand Cru from Clos Vougeot, the 2018 Le Petit Maupertuis shows ripe dark-fruit aromas of black cherry and plum layered with forest-floor and subtle truffle notes. On the palate it’s generous yet refined: bright, youthful acidity balances concentrated fruit while fine-grained tannins and a thread of toasty French oak add texture. The finish is persistent, mineral-tinged and savory. Producer notes: Domaine Jean-Charles Rion is a small, family-driven operation in the Côte de Nuits that focuses on low-yield viticulture and careful, site-specific élevage to express terroir. Winemaking notes: Fermentation is handled with attention to gentle extraction and native yeasts; the wine is aged 16–18 months in French oak with a portion of new barrels to provide structure without overpowering the fruit. Vineyard notes: Sourced from vines within the Clos Vougeot Grand Cru parcel 'Le Petit Maupertuis' on limestone-clay soils with favorable exposure, the site delivers concentrated fruit and mineral backbone typical of top Côte de Nuits sites.
