Tasting note

This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret presents a deep, rich ruby colour and a highly expressive bouquet. Aromas of concentrated red and black fruits — ripe cherries, mulberries and blackcurrant — mingle with vanilla, spice, woodland undergrowth and violet florals. With age secondary leather and savory notes will emerge. On the palate the wine is ample, fleshy and muscular yet retains elegance: broad, fine-grained tannins frame generous fruit while a discreet acidity keeps the wine balanced. The finish is long and complex, with layered spice and forest floor notes that linger. Winemaking notes: Hand-harvested and hand-sorted fruit is aged in predominantly new oak (80–100% new barrels), giving plush texture and vanilla-spice lift. Careful elevage aims to marry power with finesse. Vineyard notes: The domaine’s Clos de Vougeot holdings sit on hard limestone with low clay; vines average 45–50 years old. Production at the domaine is limited (circa 62 ares), focused on low-yield, high-quality fruit from old vines on classic Burgundian terroir.
