Tasting note
A poised Grand Cru from Flagey‑Échezeaux that marries precision with a ripe, sensual character. The glass shows a clear garnet to ruby hue; the nose opens with red fruit compote—cherry, wild strawberry and red currant—framed by baking spice, gentle smoke and vanilla from élevage. With air the tertiary forest-floor notes emerge: mushroom, truffle and a savory undergrowth. On the palate it’s succulent and broad: lively acidity lifts the mid-palate, oak adds warmth without overpowering, and tannins are fine and fairly supple. Finished with a lingering, saline-tinged persistence that promises further development in bottle. Winemaking notes: fruit is hand-sorted at the domaine and matured in 60–80% new oak barrels; vines planted on hard limestone with low clay, average vine age ranging widely from around 25 to 60 years. Domaine Mongeard‑Mugneret applies traditional Burgundian élevage and careful cellar handling to preserve clarity and complexity.
Winery
Domaine Mongeard‑Mugneret is a family-run domaine in the Côte de Nuits led by Jean Mongeard. The estate works small holdings across prestigious appellations and emphasizes traditional Burgundian practices: meticulous hand-sorting at harvest, careful vinification and élevage in largely new oak to build structure while preserving terroir expression. The domaine's holdings are limited, allowing focused attention on vineyard parcels and quality-driven cellar work.
