Tasting note

A Grand Cru from a tiny corner of Grands‑Echezeaux showing a striking deep garnet colour. The nose opens from pure red and black fruit to floral violet notes, then broadens into leather, forest-floor, mushroom and warm spice. On the palate the wine is layered and muscular yet refined: concentrated fruit framed by fine, polished tannins, a mineral thread from clay‑on‑bajocien limestone soils and subtle, well-integrated new oak. Hand-sorted fruit from 40–68 year old vines and ageing in 100% new oak barrels give structure and finesse. Best decanted for an hour and enjoyed with roast duck, game or rich mushroom dishes. Drinking window 2023–2039; will repay further patience.

Winery

Domaine Mongeard‑Mugneret is a small family domaine guided by Jean Mongeard. The estate works a compact holding in Grands‑Echezeaux with old vines (average 40–68 years) on clay-rich bajocien limestone. Fruit is hand-sorted at the winery and the 2015 cuvée was aged entirely in new oak, producing a concentrated, long-lived Grand Cru that balances power with precision.
