Tasting note

A commanding Grand Cru from Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret, the 2023 Richebourg combines a dense, luminous colour with a nose that alternates between masculine spice and plush, ripe aromas. On the palate it shows explosive youthful energy—deep, concentrated layers of dark cherry, blackcurrant and cooked fruit over hints of musk, leather and sandalwood. Underneath there’s an undergrowth note of lichen, mushroom and forest floor that adds savoury complexity. Hand-sorted fruit from old vines planted on fairly clayey soil over limestone is vinified carefully and aged 100% in new oak, giving the wine its generosity and expansive, warm mouthfeel. Designed for medium-long cellaring (Drinking Window: 2029–2047) but will reward several hours of decanting if opened young.

Winery

Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret is a family-owned domaine renowned in Vosne-Romanée for crafting terroir-driven Grand Crus. Under the ownership of Jean Mongeard the estate tends old vines on classic Côte de Nuits limestone-clay soils, harvests and hand-sorts fruit in the winery, and follows a firm oak regimen (here 100% new oak) to sculpt wines of concentration, structure and aromatic complexity.
