Bright garnet in the glass, this Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru opens with an aromatic mix of ripe black and red fruits, woodland herbs and a sous-bois note of mushrooms and leaf litter. Toasted cedar and gentle sweet spice emerge from subtle oak, while the palate shows concentrated fruit framed by lively acidity and fine-grained, polished tannins. Medium-plus in body with layered mineral and savory notes toward a long, elegant finish, it balances immediate charm with clear ageing potential. Producer notes: Philippe Cheron works within the Côte de Nuits tradition, aiming to let the vineyard’s character shine. Small-lot attention in both vine and cellar yields wines that are site-specific and ageworthy. Winemaking notes: Hand-harvested fruit is treated with gentle extraction to preserve finesse; fermentations are carried out in small vessels with careful temperature control. The wine undergoes élevage in French oak barrels (including a proportion of new oak) for around a year to 18 months, followed by light racking and minimal filtration to retain aromatic complexity. Vineyard notes: Sourced from parcels inside the historic walled Clos de Vougeot, soils are limestone with clay pockets that provide structure and minerality. Low yields and old vines contribute concentration; the walled clos moderates exposure and fosters a distinct, layered terroir expression.
