Tasting note
This Echo de Lynch Bages 2009 carries the Pauillac signature: concentrated dark fruit framed by a disciplined mineral backbone and cedar-tinged oak. The colour is deep; aromatics open on black and forest fruits with hints of cocoa, dried herb and a tobacco-scented savoury note. On the palate it shows good structure and ripe, expressive tannins that remain polished rather than aggressive—smooth and powerful with a long, iron-tinged finish. The wine began with hand-harvested grapes (28 Sept–12 Oct) and benefited from intra-plot selection aided by satellite imagery, allowing picking at optimal ripeness across small vineyard sections. Soils are classic Garonne gravel and the wine was matured twelve months in French oak barrels previously used for one vintage. Production represented roughly a quarter of the crop, reflecting its role as the estate’s second wine given a clearly defined identity from 2008 onwards. A confident, food-friendly Pauillac: decant for about an hour to let the aromas expand and serve with grilled or roasted red meats and mature cheeses.

Château Lynch-Bages is a well-known Pauillac estate historically associated with structured, classically-styled wines. Owned and managed by the Cazes family (André Cazes played a key role in the estate’s modern era), the property produced this second wine under the Echo de Lynch-Bages name from 2008 to give the former second wine a distinct identity. The estate emphasises careful vineyard selection and traditional élevage in French oak.
