2020 Gianni Brunelli Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

Soul Hook: A classic Brunello with sculpted tannins and saline edge—built to age, immediately compelling.

Why choose it?
1) Expressive terroir -> Two distinct parcels (Podernovone 350m SW; Canalicchio 200m NW) give ripe red-fruit depth and mineral backbone. Benefit: complexity that evolves in glass and cellar.
2) Traditional craft -> Hand-harvested, fermented at controlled temperatures with 12–16 days maceration and 24–30 months in Slavonian oak. Benefit: firm structure balanced by refined oak integration.
3) Proven pedigree -> High critic scores and classic Brunello structure. Benefit: confident choice for special dinners or long-term investment.

Sommelier's notes: Aromas of dried florals, redcurrant and ripe raspberry are cut by balsamic and licorice notes. On the palate it’s full-bodied with bright, chalky acidity and muscular, bony tannins that frame persistent savory and earthy layers—leather, spice and a long, saline finish. Young now, it softens with time but rewards short-term decanting.

Occasion / Pairing: Serve after a 90-minute decant with braised oxtail, herb-roasted venison or a hearty Bolognese. Ideal for celebratory family dinners, Cantonese red-meat feasts, or a leisurely Sunday roast.

Competitive edge: Delivers classic Montalcino authority and aging potential at a price point well below top-tier names—structured, terroir-driven Brunello without the over-market premium.

Winery

Gianni Brunelli is a family-focused producer in Montalcino known for crafting classic Brunello with attention to site expression. Fruit for this bottle comes from Podernovone (planted 1997, 350 m, SW exposure) and Canalicchio (planted 1989, 200 m, NW exposure). Soils are galestro and clay loams; vines are cordon trained and spur pruned. Hand-harvested fruit undergoes fermentation at 28°C (5–6 days) with 12–16 days maceration (up to 32°C), followed by 24–30 months in Slavonian oak casks (25–30 hl).
