Tasting note: A classic Barolo expression from Castelletto — the 2021 reveals lifted floral top notes of violets and rose petal, weaving through red and dried cherry, pomegranate and a discreet citrus-peel brightness. Beneath the perfume sits an earthy, savory core with hints of black pepper and ginger. The palate shows medium body, lively acidity and velvety yet structured tannins, finishing long, dense and savory. Producer notes: From Gianni Gagliardo, this bottling reflects the cool, stony aspects of the Castelletto cru. The style is focused and refined, aimed at clarity of aromatics and a long, savory finish rather than exuberant ripeness. Winemaking: Traditional methods with careful extraction to achieve ripe, polished tannins. Fermentation and extended maceration build structure while aging in neutral large-format oak (and some used barriques in select years) tempers wood influence, preserving floral aromatics and fine-grained texture. Vineyard: Castelletto’s calcareous, well-draining soils and elevation favor slow ripening and fragrant aromatics. Vines are managed for balance and concentration, producing grapes with crisp acidity and structured tannins ideal for ageing. Drinking window: 2026–2036.
