Tasting note

Tasting Note: Bold and refined, this Brunello opens with a layered bouquet of ripe dark and red cherry, baked plum, and a thread of Mediterranean herbs. Secondary notes of tobacco, cedar and gentle vanilla from French oak emerge with aeration. On the palate it is full-bodied and concentrated—lively acidity frames structured, fine-grained tannins and a mineral core that lifts the mid-palate. The finish is long, savory and evolving. Producer Notes: Podere Giodo selects only the healthiest, perfectly ripe clusters for their Brunello, producing a limited run of about 12,000 bottles. The estate’s label references the role of the region’s native variety as the principal interpreter of Montalcino’s terroir. Winemaking Notes: Fermentation lasted nine days in stainless steel with approximately 20 days of skin contact. Ageing was extended—around 30 months in a mix of 500, 700 and 2,500-litre French oak casks, followed by time in concrete vats and roughly 18 months bottle maturation—resulting in supple oak integration and polished tannins. Vineyard Notes: Vines average 20 years old on south‑east facing slopes at about 300 metres elevation. Soils are medium-textured with a notable pebble content; vineyards are planted at a density of 6,600 vines/ha and trained as spurred cordon. The site produces concentrated fruit with saline minerality and clear structural backbone. Serve: Decant 60–90 minutes and serve at 18°C. Cellaring potential through 2045; drinks well now with air but rewards patience.

Winery

Podere Giodo

Podere Giodo is a focused estate in Montalcino committed to terroir expression and quality over quantity. The team rigorously selects fruit from well-sited, mid-elevation vines and combines traditional techniques with careful oak ageing. Production is limited, allowing detailed vineyard management and measured cellar work aimed at long-lived, structured wines.
