Tasting note

Les Hauts de Smith 2023 opens with an expressive bouquet of citrus peel, white peach, mango and tropical notes lifted by honeysuckle and a delicate vanilla-toasty oak. On the palate it combines a fresh, incisive line of acidity with a gently creamy mid‑palate and a mineral, almost oyster-shell salinity that gives depth and focus. Aged 12 months in French oak with a significant portion of new barrels, the wine shows oak influence without heaviness — elegant, energetic and long. Estate-grown on the gravel-over-clay slopes of the lower Smith Haut Lafitte plots, harvest ran from 23 August to 9 September under the supervision of winemaker Fabien Teitgen and the Cathiard family. Drink early for its vibrant fruit or cellar for several years to integrate the oak; excellent with seafood, buttered fish and aged cheeses.
