Tasting note

A single‑site Hermitage from a roughly 4‑hectare parcel with a fine sediment layer over a granitic subsoil. The appearance is deep garnet with purple highlights. On the nose it unfolds tarry, smoky notes layered with ripe red and black fruits—raspberry, blackberry and mulberry—plus leather, walnut and a thread of liquorice. The palate makes a strong, confident entrance: concentrated and velvety, with sinewy ripe tannins, savory tobacco and cocoa tones and a persistent, peppery finish. Producer tasting notes point to excellent longevity (decades in good cellars). Winemaking is traditional and precise: hand‑harvested fruit is fully destemmed, fermented in concrete tanks with one to two punch‑downs daily and never exceeding 32°C. Extended maceration of four to five weeks encourages tannin polymerisation; only the free‑run fraction is used for this cuvée. The wine is matured 18–20 months in French oak casks (around 30% new) and clarified naturally. Ownership and care remain in the Chapoutier family (Michel & Marc Chapoutier), and the fruit for this vintage was noted as biodynamically grown by reviewers. Expect a powerful, structured wine that rewards decanting and can age for many years.
