Tasting Note: The 2021 vintage unfurls with an enticing floral lift of violets and cherry blossom that gives way to concentrated black and blue fruit — blackcurrant, blackberry and ripe blueberry — threaded with graphite, cinnamon and discreet French oak spice. The palate is full-bodied yet poised: fine-grained, supportive tannins frame layered fruit and spice, delivering a calm intensity and an expansive, persistent finish. Producer Notes: Opus One is the joint-venture realization of two wine icons, founded to pursue uncompromising quality. That philosophy guides every decision from the vineyard to the cellar. Winemaking Notes: Hand-harvested fruit from four estate parcels saw meticulous sorting and a classic élevage: 19 months in French oak, yielding integrated spice and structure without overwhelming purity and freshness. Modern viticultural practices are blended with traditional craft to showcase site expression. Vineyard Notes: Estate holdings sit on the western side of Oakville, including parcels within the famed To Kalon and the Ballestra and River sites that envelop the winery. Soils, exposure and careful canopy management produce concentrated, balanced grapes ideal for long ageing. Opus One is the joint venture between Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi, conceived to create a single, uncompromising wine. The estate follows meticulous viticulture — hand-harvesting where appropriate, parcel-by-parcel attention and a willingness to integrate modern techniques when they improve quality. Wines are matured primarily in French oak to lend structure and refinement for long-term ageing.
