Tasting Note: The 2020 Valdicava Brunello opens with reserved, youthful aromas of small red fruits—think wild cherry and raspberry—framed by fresh violets, subtle vinous notes and an earthy undercurrent. On the palate it is firm and medium-bodied, with velvety yet assertive tannins and lively, refreshing acidity that gives the wine energy and lift. Intense and polished in style, the finish is currently a touch austere but shows excellent structure and length; with short cellar time the components will knit together nicely. Producer & Winery Notes: Valdicava is a distinguished Montalcino estate celebrated for crafting Brunellos that marry power with elegance. The team emphasizes low yields, careful selection and traditional methods to express vineyard character and ageing potential. Winemaking Notes: Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo controlled fermentation with extended maceration to extract structure and aromatic complexity. The wine is aged for an extended period in oak casks and further harmonised in bottle before release, producing a concentrated, age-worthy expression. Vineyard Notes: Fruit comes from hillside sites in the Montalcino area with well-drained, stony soils and strong diurnal temperature shifts. Old vines, reduced yields and meticulous canopy work give wines of clarity, tension and longevity. Cellaring & Serving: Drinking window 2027–2041. Decant for roughly 60–120 minutes if drinking now to soften tannins and open aromatic layers. Serve with robust, tomato-based pastas, braised or roasted red meats, game and aged cheeses.
