2020 Masi Costasera Amarone Classico
Look: deep, very dark ruby. Nose: concentrated baked and dried fruit—black cherry, plum and fig—lifted by violet florals and subtle balsamic notes. Background hints of cocoa, freshly ground coffee, cinnamon and clove add spice and complexity. Palate: powerful and full-bodied but composed; dense fruit carries through with ripe, velvety tannins and a balancing acidity that keeps the wine fresh. Oak is present but discreet, framing rather than dominating. Made using the traditional appassimento appassimento drying method to concentrate aromas and structure; aged carefully to integrate tannin, alcohol and spice. Producer notes praise its balance and long aging potential; cellaring through 2035–2045 will reveal further tertiary complexity. Serve slightly cool for reds (around 16–18°C) after decanting (about 1 hour) to open aromas and soften initial grip. Excellent with rich red meats, game, intense risottos and aged cheeses.
