Tasting note: A powerful Islay expression where sweet smoke meets coastal salinity. On the nose: sweet smoke and a hint of tar layered with dried seaweed, a salty coastal breeze and olive brine; charred lemons, candied lemon peel, fennel, chalk and walnuts. On the palate: upfront sweetness—think tinned pineapple—swiftly overtaken by ashy smoke, charred oak and smoked peanut skin; lively lemon and a pronounced savory saltiness give it drive. Finish: medium length with pinches of salt, tar and a trace of aniseed.
Producer notes: Ardbeg’s Smoketrails Manzanilla Edition highlights a coastal sherry influence—Manzanilla barrels lend an olive‑brine, saline character that plays against the distillery’s signature peat smoke.
Winemaking / maturation: Distilled at Ardbeg on Islay and bottled at 46% ABV. Matured initially in traditional casks and finished in Manzanilla-seasoned sherry casks (Sanlúcar style), the interplay of charred oak and saline sherry ageing accentuates citrus, brine and smoky tar notes.
Vineyard / distillery notes: Born on the windswept shores of Islay, Ardbeg’s coastal location and peat smoke define the spirit’s backbone.
