2019 Chateau de la tour Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru

This Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru from 2019 presents a poised bouquet of ripe red and darker berry notes layered with forest floor, pressed herbs and subtle spice. On the palate it is medium-plus in body with bright, lively acidity, fine-grained tannins and a saline, persistent finish — elegant but built for aging. Producer notes indicate careful vineyard selection within the historic Clos de Vougeot walls, low yields and manual harvests. Fermentation is handled with gentle extraction in temperature-controlled vessels and the wine is matured in French oak barrels (a proportion new) for extended élevage, allowing oak to integrate without masking the site expression. Expect complexity to deepen over the next decade and a half; drink from now for more early charm (with decanting) or cellar to 2040+ for full mineral and tertiary development.

Winery

Chateau de La Tour (Labet & Dechelette) works holdings within the historic walls of Clos de Vougeot. The estate emphasizes traditional Burgundian viticulture — low yields, manual sorting and parcel-level attention — aiming to translate the steep, stony slopes and limestone-rich soils into wines of clarity and longevity. Vinification balances modern precision with a respect for terroir: careful extraction, controlled fermentation and extended élevage in French oak to reveal layered complexity rather than overt oak influence.
