Tasting Note: Mature and composed, this 1996 Château La Louvière shows a classic Pessac‑Léognan profile: black plum and blackcurrant at the core, threaded with cedar, tobacco and leather from age. Earthy, graphite undertones and a measured oak spice round out the palate. The texture is smooth yet structured, with medium‑firm tannins and a lingering savory finish.

Producer & Vineyard Notes: From Château La Louvière within the Vignobles André Lurton holdings, the estate sits on deep gravel over calcareous clay — an ideal drainage/retention mix that gives wines both concentration and mineral lift. The 1996 campaign was guided by winemaker Anne Neuville, with consulting input from Michel Rolland and Mikael Laizet.

Winemaking & Ageing: Fruit was hand‑picked into crates and vinified in a variety of vessels: wooden vats, 500‑litre barrels and 750‑litre terracotta amphorae, allowing careful phenolic extraction. Long vatting and attentive extraction management were employed. The wine spent 12 months in oak (40% new) and roughly 15% of the volume was matured in terracotta amphorae, producing a blend of rounded oak influence and earthen texture.

Serving Suggestion: Decant for 30–60 minutes to reveal tertiary aromatics and soften tannins. Serve at 16–18°C. Matches well with roasted or grilled red meats, game and mature hard cheeses.
