2019 Chateau Les Carmes Haut-Brion

Soul Hook: A Pessac-Leognan classic—minerality and floral lift framed by concentrated dark fruit and silk.

Why choose it?
1) Estate precision -> Powerful, layered wine built for both near-term reward and long ageing.
2) Vineyard pedigree -> Old vines on graves and limestone deliver saline minerality and terroir clarity.
3) Modern craft -> Hand-harvest, mixed vat techniques and a bold oak/amphora regime for texture and depth.

Sommelier's Notes: The 2019 shows a deep core of blackberry, plum and blueberry with violet and tobacco lift. Smoke and graphite thread through, while the acidity keeps the palate lit. Tannins are ripe but structured, offering a polished, persistent finish—think forest walk after rain with satin tannins on the finish.

Winemaking & Vineyard: 100% hand-picked from selected plots; high-density planting and average vine age over 40 years. Fermented in a mix of stainless, wooden and concrete vats with partial whole-bunch; aged 18–24 months (84% new oak, plus foudres and terracotta amphorae) for complexity and mouthfeel.

Occasions: Serious dinner nights—steak dinners, celebratory roasts, or to open for a collector-friendly bottle to show to guests.

Competitive Edge: Compared with marquee Bordeaux names, this offers top-tier Pessac-Leognan structure and complexity at markedly better value—modern cellar technique meets classic terroir expression.
