Tasting note
Tasting Note: Mature and classic, this bottle opens with black-currant fruit and deeper notes of tobacco, dried herbs, earth and a touch of smoked almond. On the palate it is full-bodied with round, velvety tannins, a core of dark fruit and restrained oak spice from a year in French barrels (50% new). Producer & Vineyard: Château Poujeaux, a family-held estate on the summit slopes of Grand Poujeaux in Moulis-en-Médoc, farms roughly 70 hectares on predominantly quaternary gravel with a high-density planting (10,000 vines/ha). Harvest is hand-picked into small baskets. Winemaking: Meticulous sorting by hand and optical selection, whole-berry fermentation with gentle extraction and careful ageing for one year in French oak (half new) yields a wine that balances concentration with elegance. Drinking Window: originally recommended 2006–2018; the wine shows mature tertiary notes now — decant gently (about 45 minutes) to lift the aromatics. Best with grilled or roasted red meats and aged cheeses.
