2018 Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur Volnay 1er Cru Pitures

This 2018 from Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur's Pitures Premier Cru shows the polished, ethereal side of Volnay: bright red cherry and raspberry weave with rose petal and a delicate thread of forest floor and mushroom. Medium-bodied and finely textured, the palate is lifted by fresh acidity and silky tannins, leading to a refined, lingering finish with gentle mineral and spice notes. Producer notes point to meticulous vineyard work on well-drained limestone soils and traditional Burgundian winemaking — hand-harvested fruit, gentle whole-cluster handling on selected parcels, and careful ageing in French oak to preserve purity rather than oak dominance. The result is an elegant, food-friendly wine that rewards modest decanting and pairs beautifully with roasted duck, mushroom dishes and classic bistro fare.
