1999 Domaine Jean Charles Rion Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Clos des Argillieres

Tasting note: Mature, elegant and classically Burgundian — aromas of red cherry and dried cranberry are framed by forest-floor, truffle and leather notes, with tobacco and cedar spice emerging on the rim. On the palate it is silky and poised: fine, integrated tannins, lively but balanced acidity and a mineral, slightly savory finish that lingers.
Producer notes: From the small family domaine of Jean‑Charles Rion in Nuits‑Saint‑Georges, this Clos des Argillières bottling reflects careful parcel selection and traditional cellar practices. The domaine focuses on modest yields and hands‑on viticulture to express the site.
Winemaking notes: Fermented with attention to gentle extraction and hand sorting; élevage in French oak barrels (a portion new) for around a year to a year and a half, with limited racking to preserve texture. Bottled when mature, often showing refined tertiary complexity after decades in bottle.
Vineyard notes: The Clos des Argillières sits on classic Côte de Nuits limestone‑clay soils with good drainage and mid‑slope exposure. Low yields, manual harvest and parcel-level attention produce concentrated but elegant wines that reward careful cellaring.

Domaine Jean‑Charles Rion is a small, family‑run domaine in Nuits‑Saint‑Georges that concentrates on parcel expression and traditional Burgundian technique. The team favors low yields, manual harvesting and careful élevage in French oak to highlight site character rather than overt winemaking signatures.
