Tasting note

A striking Grand Cru from Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret: the 2023 shows a deep, luminous garnet colour and a nose that moves between fresh violets and red fruits to darker, more tertiary notes—leather, forest floor, mushroom and dried mulberries—alongside a spicy, peppery lift. On the palate it is concentrated and harmonious, full-bodied yet refined, with silky-but-structured tannins and a long, resonant finish. Producer notes highlight hand sorting at harvest and ageing in 100% new oak, which adds spice and support to the wine's natural terroir expression. Vineyard parcels sit on clay-rich soils over Bajocien limestone with vines averaging 40–68 years, a setup that contributes depth, minerality and ageing potential. Best cellared through the 2030s but open with careful decanting for near-term enjoyment.

Winery

Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret is a family domaine rooted in the Côte de Nuits with a reputation for meticulously crafted, terroir-driven Burgundies. Under Jean Mongeard's stewardship the estate emphasizes exacting vineyard work and careful cellar practices—hand sorting at harvest and conservative extraction—paired with measured use of new oak to frame and not overwhelm the site's personality. The domaine farms a selection of prestigious parcels and traditionally ages top cuvées in new barrels to build structure and longevity.
