2022 Domaine Mongeard Mugneret Pernand Vergelesses 1er Cru Vergelesses Rouge (375 ml)

Soul Hook: Elegant Premier Cru character — bright red fruits framed by savory, earthy undercurrents.

Why choose it? 1) Terroir-driven structure -> Premier Cru exposure and limestone soil give fine mineral tension and age-worthiness. 2) Refined balance -> poised acidity and silky grip make it versatile with richer Asian flavours. 3) Craft and provenance -> from a respected family domaine with a tradition of careful hillside parcels.

Sommelier's Notes: On the nose, red cherry, cranberry and a hint of woodland floor. The palate delivers fresh acidity, sleek mid-palate texture and a savory, mushroom-tinged finish — approachable now after a short decant, yet with a purity that will gain complexity over a few years.

Occasion / Pairing: Sunday roast for two, a celebratory Cantonese banquet with roast goose, or a cosy mushroom pasta and candlelight. Works superbly when the dish has umami and gentle fat.

Competitive Edge: Premier Cru pedigree at a price that punches above its label — classic Côte de Beaune finesse without the hyper-commercial markup. A smart pick for collectors and convivial dinners.
