Tasting note

Tasting note: Deep, almost impenetrable purple with an intense bouquet of black fruits — blackberry, black cherry and wild blueberry — layered with olive, licorice, smoked meat, black truffle and a cool menthol/pepper spice. The palate is massively concentrated yet refined: an oily, dense mid-palate wrapped in the finest, polished tannins, with tactile minerality and vibrant acidity that carry a very long, resonant finish. Producer notes: From the famed La Chapelle single-site on Hermitage hill, this cuvée is made for long ageing and expresses the site's stony minerality and depth. The estate has reduced the use of new oak in recent vintages to let pure fruit and terroir sing. Winemaking: Fermentation and extraction are handled with precision to preserve freshness; aging is a deliberate blend of a small portion of new French oak (around 15%), used barrels and concrete egg-shaped vats, producing a wine with structure but restrained oak influence. Vineyard notes: Grapes are sourced from steep, granite-rich slopes of the Hermitage hill, where old vines and a sun-drenched, south-facing exposition create concentrated, savory fruit with pronounced mineral backbone. Cellaring & service: Built for medium–long term cellaring (drinking window 2025–2045). If consuming now, decant 60–120 minutes to allow layers to open.

Winery

Domaine de la Chapelle is the historic name attached to the celebrated single-vineyard bottling from the Hermitage hill. Long held in esteem for producing benchmark wines of power and finesse, the domaine focuses on low yields, old vines and meticulous cellar work to express the site's stony minerality and depth. Recent vintages show a more restrained use of new oak and careful aging protocols to highlight purity and longevity.
