2017 E. Guiga Cote Rotie "La Mouline"

[Soul Hook] A famously elegant Côte‑Rôtie that marries silk and power — La Mouline 2017 is voluptuous yet razor‑sharp in terroir expression.

[Why choose it?]
1) Iconic terroir -> A distinctive mineral backbone from steep, terraced vines gives focus to ripe fruit. Benefit: more complexity and ageing potential than run‑of‑the‑mill Rhône.
2) Serious oak ageing -> 42 months in new oak adds spice and length. Benefit: long, persistent finish that rewards patience.
3) Meticulous vinification -> Thermoregulated fermentations, four‑week maceration and careful pumping‑over yield polished texture. Benefit: seductive silkiness with structural depth.

[Producer & Winemaking Notes] From E. Guigal’s flagship site in the côte blonde, vines average ~75 years on gneiss and limestone‑loess soils. Fermented in thermoregulated stainless steel with traditional pumping‑over and a four‑week maceration; matured 42 months in new oak. Small yields and terraced amphitheatre vineyards concentrate flavours.

[Sommelier’s Note] Deep ruby with vermillion highlights. Aromas of red berry and blackberry layered with violet petals, black pepper and warm spice from extended new‑oak aging. On the palate it’s plush and concentrated — silkier than athletic, with powdery tannins and a clear mineral thread that drags the finish long. Best shown after an hour of decanting or cellaring several years.

[Occasion / Pairing] Ideal for celebratory dinners: roast herb lamb, rich beef cuts, game birds or mushroom dishes with aged cheese. In Hong Kong, pair with a roast lamb rack for a weekend family dinner or a special Cantonese roast beef banquet.

[Competitive Edge] Compared with headline Bordeaux or Napa icons at similar prices, this La Mouline delivers immediate perfume and a silkier mid‑palate while offering rare hillside terroir expression — highly collectible but drinkable now.
