2020 E. Guigal Gigondas
2020 E. Guigal Gigondas
Tasting Note: Deep purple in the glass, this Gigondas opens with intense aromatics of stone fruit — peach and apricot — layered with liquorice, undergrowth and warm spice. The palate is generous and powerful: full-bodied with pronounced, structured tannins and a long, elegant finish. Producer Notes: Part of the family Collection illustrating E. Guigal’s commitment to consistency and quality; Marcel and Philippe Guigal oversee careful selection and blending. Winemaking Notes: Traditional vinification with lengthy maceration followed by two years’ ageing in large French oak foudres (50% new oak), producing a wine with oak framing but preserved fruit. Vineyard Notes: Sourced from slopes of ancient alluvia, red clay and gravel; vines average around 40 years old. Production is substantial yet attentive (≈120,000 bottles). Closure: cork. Serve slightly below room temperature and decant to open up the aromatics and soften tannins.
