These days, Vieux Donjon is one of the few estates in the region making only a single cuvée (Close des Papes is another). The 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape is a floral, violet-scented wine that's supple and ripe. Only medium to full-bodied, it showcases complex garrigue and licorice notes rather than oodles of red fruit and comes to a long, silky finish.

Tasting note

The 2017 Le Vieux Donjon Chateauneuf-du-Pape is a testament to the art of winemaking in the Rhone region. This organic wine, crafted from a blend dominated by Grenache, with Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault, offers a rich and intense experience. The bouquet is a symphony of floral and violet notes, while the palate is caressed by velvety, onctuous textures and a complex array of garrigue and licorice flavors. Medium to full-bodied, it culminates in a long, silky finish. Aged for 6 months in cement tanks and then for about 12 months in large oak foudres, this wine is lightly oaked to preserve its intricate character. Decant for an hour to fully appreciate its depth and pair it with robust dishes for an unforgettable meal.
