Tasting note: Bottled at a bold 58.4% ABV, the 2017 Classic Cut opens with confident aromas of Christmas cake, caramel and bright orange zest, followed by vanilla, toffee and a warm nutmeg/ginger spice. The palate is rich and textured—honeyed sweetness from the sherry-seasoned casks is balanced by lively citrus and assertive oak, delivering a full, warming mouthfeel and a satisfyingly long, gingery finish. Producer notes: The first release in The Macallan’s annual Classic Cut series, this limited edition was matured exclusively in hand-picked oloroso sherry-seasoned American and European oak casks sourced from Jerez, Spain. Bottled at a higher strength to unlock concentrated flavor, it showcases The Macallan’s celebrated mastery of wood and spirit. Winemaking & maturation: Distilled at The Macallan and matured with meticulous cask selection, the spirit benefits from both American and European oak seasoning in sherry casks—bringing dried fruit, toffee and spice alongside pronounced oak tannin and vanilla. Bottled without heavy dilution to retain intensity and structure. Vineyard / provenance notes: Though not a vinous product, this Single Malt reflects its Speyside/Highlands provenance—pure spring water, carefully handled malt spirit and the distillery’s long-standing relationships with cask cooperages in Jerez shape its identity. Best enjoyed neat or with a few drops of water and 10–15 minutes in the glass to open.
