Tasting note: A poised Barolo from Cannubi with an aromatic blend of black cherry, blackberry compote, dried rose petal, and classic tar and mineral hints. Secondary notes of cedar, tobacco, espresso and dark chocolate form a savory, almost meaty backdrop. On the palate it is concentrated and layered — ripe dark fruit and truffle-tinged earthiness meet bright, persistent acidity and assertive, clearly structured tannins. The finish is long, savory and lingering. Producer notes: Crafted by the Virna branch of the Borgogno family, this bottling comes from the historic Cannubi slope—one of Barolo’s most celebrated sites. The estate combines traditional values with careful modern oversight under Virna Borgogno’s stewardship. Winemaking: Fermentation follows extended maceration to extract ripe tannins and deep color; the wine spends substantial time aging in wood and bottle before release to integrate oak, spice and tertiary development. The result is a wine built for cellaring yet rewarding with decanting now. Vineyard: Cannubi’s well-drained calcareous-clay soils and favorable exposure give wines precision and mineral lift. Low yields and attentive vineyard work emphasize concentration and site expression, producing grapes with dense flavor and firm structure. Serve with a thorough decant (60–90 minutes) if drinking now; excellent for pairing with roasted or braised red meats, truffle dishes and mature cheeses. Drinking window: 2018–2035.

Virna Borgogno is the family extension of a long-established Barolo house, now stewarded by Virna, Lodovico Borgogno’s daughter. The estate focuses on classic site-expression from historic Crus such as Cannubi, combining careful vineyard work with traditional winemaking to produce ageworthy Barolos.
