Tasting note
Color: pure golden. The Yamazaki 12 Year reveals a fragrant, layered nose of ripe peach, pineapple and grapefruit edged with candied orange, clove and vanilla; a whisper of Mizunara oak adds exotic spice. On the palate it’s silky and rounded — coconut and buttery pastry notes meet tart cranberry and gentle cereal sweetness. The finish is long, spiced and warming with sweet ginger and cinnamon lingering. Crafted at Japan’s first commercial distillery, this expression is matured in a selection of oak casks (including American and sherry-seasoned woods and Mizunara influence), then married to achieve balance. Medium-full bodied and expressive, it’s best enjoyed neat or with a drop of water after opening to let the aromatics blossom.
Winery
The Yamazaki distillery, founded by Shinjiro Torii in 1923 and operated by Suntory, is Japan’s pioneering single malt distillery. Located in the humid, mineral-rich valley on the outskirts of Osaka, Yamazaki benefits from pure spring water and distinct seasonal shifts. The 12 Year expression is blended from casks of differing character — American oak, sherry-seasoned casks and casks with Mizunara influence — allowing floral, fruit and spice notes to harmonise.
