A classic Saint-Julien from Château Branaire-Ducru's 2005 vintage: concentrated, structured and elegant. The bouquet opens with layers of blackberries, currants, tobacco and faint mocha, then lifts into floral and herbaceous notes. On the palate it is dense and fleshy with powerful yet polished tannins, integrated oak (about 60% new) and a refreshing thread of acidity that carries a long, savory finish. Made from separately vinified parcels with extended maceration and aged 18 months in oak, this wine balances power and finesse — an excellent candidate for medium-term cellaring but charming after a half-hour decant.
