A powerful, classically structured Pessac‑Léognan showing ripe dark fruit and refined oak control. The 2022 offers layered aromas of blackberry, black cherry, dark chocolate, tobacco and cedar with hints of citrus zest and savory herbs. On the palate it is full-bodied and concentrated, with bright acidity balancing muscular but fine-grained tannins and a long, expressive finish.

Producer notes: Château Pape Clément—owned by Bernard Magrez and guided by consultants including Michel Rolland and Julien Viaud—combines historic estate character with meticulous parcel management. The property emphasizes sustainable practices (Terra Vitis, HVE3) and low yields to concentrate flavor.

Winemaking notes: Grapes are hand‑harvested into small crates, sorted in the vineyard, destemmed berry‑by‑berry and sorted again before gentle gravity transfers to 30–70 hl wooden vats. A cool pre‑fermentation maceration precedes a 30–40 day fermentation with manual punch‑downs; the wine is racked by gravity into French oak for malolactic fermentation and aged 18 months in barrel.

Vineyard notes: Parcels are managed individually with grass between rows, animal traction tillage in places, and close canopy work (debudding, green harvesting) to control vigor. Result: concentrated, terroir‑driven fruit with saline/mineral backbone and classic Graves structure.

Service suggestion: If drinking young, decant about 90 minutes to reveal the mid‑palate. Cellaring potential is high; will reward patient ageing.
