Ichiro's Malt WWR (Wine Wood Reserve) is a Pure Malt from Chichibu that showcases the distillery's talent for marrying spirit and cask character. On the nose, expect concentrated notes of dried dark berries, stewed plum, raisin and subtle red-fruit lift, wrapped in vanilla pod, toasted oak and warm baking spices. The palate is rich and rounded — silk-like texture, layered fruit sweetness, dark chocolate and a peppered spice thread from maturation. The wine-wood influence brings a refined fruit-forward complexity without overpowering the malt core. At 46% ABV it delivers presence and balance, finishing long, warming and gently tannic.

Producer notes: Created by Ichiro Akuto, Chichibu was established in 2007 about 100 km northwest of Tokyo. The site’s marked seasonal variation helps the spirit mature with clarity and depth; production remains small-batch and hands-on, emphasizing careful cask selection and blending.

Maturation & production: WWR highlights the use of former wine-seasoned wood together with carefully managed distillates from local barley. Time-consuming, labour-intensive methods, precise distillation runs and selective cask finishing result in a whisky that is both expressive and balanced — rich fruit layers framed by toasted oak and spice.

Serving suggestion: Allow the whisky to breathe for about 10–20 minutes in the glass; serve neat or with a few drops of water to open aromas. Pairs beautifully with bittersweet chocolate, smoked meats and robust cheeses.
