Tasting note: Rich, concentrated black-fruited aromatics of baked blueberry and cassis lift from the glass, framed by dark chocolate, cedar and a stony iron note. On the palate it reveals a deep, focused core of fruit, powder-fine yet muscular tannins and bright underlying acidity that keeps the wine taut. Oak spices and a polished, almost silky finish round out a wine built for both near-term enjoyment and long-term cellaring.
Producer notes: From a single Howell Mountain site, the producer emphasizes low yields and meticulous, small-lot handling to express the mountain’s mineral intensity and concentrated flavors. The 2021 vintage shows both power and polish, already approachable with aeration but with long-term potential.
Winemaking notes: Crafted in small lots, fermented to extract ripe phenolics, then matured in French oak for extended aging to integrate tannin and spice. Careful barrel selection and palate-driven blending produce a seamless texture with layered complexity.
Vineyard notes: Planted on steep, well-drained mountain soils with cool nights and strong diurnal shifts, the vineyard yields intensely flavored fruit with concentrated tannin and a pronounced mineral streak. Elevation, volcanic/rocky soils and strict canopy management deliver low yields and concentrated berries.
