Tasting note: A wine of contrasts — a first impression of soft sweetness (a strawberry suggestion) opens into dense, darker fruit: blueberry and blackberry layered with graphite and iron minerality. Oak char, bitter chocolate and espresso join a spice thread of star anise. On the palate it is thick and concentrated, with a massive frame of fine-grained, firm tannins and long, persistent length.
Producer & vineyard: From vines planted high on Howell Mountain, this bottling comes from a steep, well-drained site that yields concentrated fruit with notable minerality and bright lift.
