【Sommelier's private note】Shiny dark garnet. Upfront notes of creme de cassis, mocha and toasted oak evolve into cedar, eucalyptus and a whiff of tobacco. On the palate it is full, plush and concentrated — tannins still assertive but well integrated, giving a silky, long finish. Decant 60–90 minutes if drinking now; it will repay further cellaring.

Château Leoville Poyferre — a Second Growth (2ème Grand Cru Classé) in Saint‑Julien, long held by the Cuvelier family. The estate spans some 80 hectares in multiple plots, including the single‑block Moulin Riche. Vineyard management is meticulous (average vine age ~38 years); winemaking combines hand sorting, optical sorting, cold pre‑maceration and 18 months of oak ageing. Key team: Isabelle Davin (oenologist), Didier Thomann (cellar master), consultant Michel Rolland.
